Practice
As well as the two disciplines of clinical imaging and radiotherapy, radiography can be further divided into a range of specialisms. Traditionally, this has been done by treatment type or imaging modality, although developing practice can often mean that boundaries are blurred and many practitioners define their range and scope of practice by patient or systemic type, or specific responsibilities – advanced practitioner in gastro-intestinal imaging, for instance, or skin care specialist in radiotherapy. Some areas of practice are common to many, if not all, practitioners. Examples would include radiation protection and reporting for diagnostic radiographers.
In this section, practice has been divided between a range of categories, but please check through the index carefully to see which are of interest to you. If you are a diagnostic radiographer working mainly in CT, you will certainly find useful material in the radiation protection and reporting sections too, for example.
This section of the website aims to provide you with a quick reference point to some of the key aspects of your practice and, importantly, will keep you up-to-date with what is going on nationally that may well have a significant impact on your practice.
Although practice development and career progression are not necessarily the same thing, much of the information in these pages will link to national developments that may well have implications for your own career progression. You are strongly advised to check these pages and those in the career progression section of this website regularly. Every effort will be made to provide links and cross references as appropriate.
