CPD
The Society and College of Radiographers expects all members to engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and provides a range of resources to support this. Radiographers who are registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) to practice in the UK will be aware that the first CPD audit will be carried out in February 2010 and that radiographers selected for audit will be notified in December of this year.
However, CPD is not simply a matter of maintaining registration. Active engagement with CPD can bring a number of professional and personal rewards and the College of Radiographers promotes a benefit, rather than a sanction, model of CPD.
All members have access to CPD Now, an online system enabling you to plan, undertake and record your CPD in accordance with the College's recommendations. CPD Now allows you to have your CPD accredited by the College and to demonstrate to your employer and service users that you are undertaking CPD appropriate to your scope and level of practice - whether clinical, educational, managerial, or in research. If you are accredited by the College you still have to satisfy the HPC's CPD Standards, but CPD Now contains a pro-forma to enable you to do this easily and effectively. CoR CPD accreditation implies that you have done sufficient relevant CPD to be more than well placed to meet the HPC requirement.
