SoR 'disappointed' at staged pay increase

Twenty pound notes

Radiographers and other public sector employees are being asked to accept a staged increase in pay for 2007/08 with the first increment of 1.5 per cent being paid from April and a further 1 per cent from November.

“We are disappointed that the increase is in two parts,” said Warren Town, the Society's director of industrial relations.

“We knew that the NHS deficits meant that this year's pay award was going to be tough but the government only has itself to blame for the mess that NHS funding is in.”

He continued, “We are concerned about the affect of pay staging on members who have yet to be assimilated under Agenda for Change and who have not concluded appeals on bandings."

“An unfortunate precedent has been set because it is the first time that this Labour government has staged a pay award for the allied health professions and it is not a situation that we would like to see occur again.”

The Society and other healthcare trades unions will now consider the detail of the Pay Review Body report and consult with members on the offer that has been made.
