Cancer care reform
“The SoR will ensure the voices of radiotherapy and therapeutic radiographers are heard as England’s cancer services are reshaped,” Charlotte Beardmore, SoR professional officer for radiotherapy has promised.
Charlotte will co-ordinate SoR involvement in the delivery of the new Cancer Reform Strategy launched by the government in December 2007.
“We are pushing priorities such as a long term workforce strategy for cancer services and the four-tier model for radiographers firmly on the reform agenda,” she added.
"Already the Society has representatives working with government on the radiotherapy data set, radiotherapy service commissioning and the use of new radiotherapy technologies.
“The SCoR Radiotherapy Advisory group is developing guidance on staffing models for smaller satellite centres, and guidance on the role of the community liaison practitioner and the skills of radiographers in providing care and support at all points along the cancer pathway. We will continue to seek out more ways to contribute to the reforms.”
