Current projects.

Flexible or solid stabilisation for lumbar spondylosis? (FleSS)

A randomised controlled trial - Stage 1 - Feasibility Study

Sponsored by Zimmer International, a feasibility study for a randomised controlled trial comparing the outcomes of Postero-lateral fusion (PLF) with dynamic stabilisation (DYNESIS) of the lumbar spine. Outcome measures include objectively measuring intervertebral motion using a new radiographic tool called OSMIA (Objective Spinal Motion Imaging Analysis).

Work Experience

I graduated in 1998 from the University of Hertfordshire and worked as a diagnostic radiographer at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for a year. I moved back to the University of Hertfordshire in September 1999 to begin a career in research before I joined the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in Bournemouth in 2001 to develop a new fluoroscopic technique measuring dynamic motion of the lumbar spine (Objective Spinal Motion Imaging Analysis). I took a year out to travel and work in Australia during 2004, before returning to the AECC in Bournemouth as a research radiographer, managing a feasibility trial of lumbar fusion comparisons, as well as further development work on the OMSIA tool which is currently in use in three U.K hospitals. I am also employed by Poole Hospital NHS trust as a diagnostic

I'm keen to promote research in radiography and involve radiographers in multi-disciplinary research, as well as encourage radiographers to develop and lead their own research projects.
