Welcome to the student section
If you are on a programme leading to qualification as a radiographer you are entitled to join the Society of Radiographers.
The Society of Radiographers welcomes student members and offer a reduced rate subscription. We provide the services and support you need throughout your course and help you have your say in matters affecting the profession. Check out the links above. There are a number of benefits available to student members. There is also information about the student delegates who sit on UK Council, access to the members' area of sor.org, the reference library, publications, networks and special interest groups, as well as a list of contacts.
We are always pleased to receive student contributions for the online news section and for Synergy News. Contact Eleanor Sheath with your ideas.
More information on all the student services mentioned is available in a new handbook, 'Information for Students 2007/8 Academic Year'.
Hard copies are available from info@sor.org.
New membership system
As stated in the student news section there have been changes in the system for SoR student membership. Until now government funding has covered SoR registration fees for all radiography students. However, government policy has changed and universities may no longer be able to pay these on behalf of students. In response, the Council of the Society of Radiographers has decided to reduce the student membership fee to £5 per month with the aim of making it affordable for students who will be paying themselves, and reducing the burden on universities paying for their students.
Students who have received free membership of the Society until now should contact their HEI to find out whether they have continued provision. If not, individual students will now be responsible for paying their own annual subscription. Students affected by the change have until 31 December 2007 to register and arrange their payment.
On qualifying, students who register at the beginning of their course will recoup almost all of their fees as they will receive three months complimentary full membership for every year of their student membership; eg if you paid for three years as a student you will get nine months complimentary full membership on qualifying.
