Welcome Samantha Jewell!

A picture of Sam

What does your job involve?

I will support all education levels under one umbrella to advance radiography education in line with other UK allied health professionals. This will mean establishing excellent relationships with education providers, determining the needs of the HEI’s and developing a value for money service that supports students effectively. I am also going to be overseeing the SoR’s accreditation work, including exploring accreditation for consultant practitioners.

How will you shape the future of student membership?

It is key to listen to students and encourage them to be fully involved, so that I can give them the support they need. I want to build a strong network of student reps to take part in improving policy and services for students. Publishing the new handbook for student reps will be part of this, followed by introducing training for reps and meetings so they can exchange ideas.

What are your priorities for education?

Education should reflect the developing needs of professional practice. I see myself as being at the forefront of developments in radiography education and working with other professions on developments that impact the wider practice of education. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity and one which attracted me to the position. I want to support innovation and work with education providers to build excellent relationships between them and the SoR.

What does the accreditation work involve?

The SoR provides accreditation of the professional level workforce through approval and re-approval of pre- and post-registration programmes and through individual accreditation as a member of the professional body.

Accreditation is about quality assurance and best practice, and ensuring and recognising that individuals have the requisite skills and underpinning knowledge for practice and that education programmes are designed to develop this. The SoR has a responsibility for leading the profession and strengthening the contribution from radiographers and the radiography workforce within the healthcare teams. The SoR also has a responsibility to set professional practice benchmarks, which involves keeping abreast of practice and development at all levels.
