Easing the transition from student to practitioner
As the Flying Start programme nears the end of its first year - two radiographers give the low down on how it has helped them:

Julie Gray Diagnostic radiographer Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Graduate from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh |
I am the only 2005 graduate in my department and the 2004 graduates seemed so far ahead of me already in terms of confidence and skills. Flying Start has helped by giving me a link to other new graduates.
The programme also gave me an incentive to look at the way the department and hospital and how I fit in as a new graduate. It gave me ideas as to how to critically analyse my own techniques and skills with patients and staff.
I learnt a lot from the Flying Start activities about my own practice and how to improve on what I learnt at university. I would advise others to get involved and have done so with the 2006 graduates.
