Manning joins Diagnostic Imaging Research Group

The University of Salford's (UoS) multi-professional Diagnostic Imaging Group has appointed David Manning as an honorary professor of medical image perception.
David is a well-known researcher in the field of medical imaging. He is currently professor of medical imaging in the school of medical imaging sciences at the University of Cumbria and his research interests include visual perception errors, the effect of spatial frequency on visual attraction, the relationship between viewing conditions and radiological performance and the evaluation of Jackknife Free-Response Receiver Operating Characteristic (JAFROC).
The UoS established the multi-professional Diagnostic Imaging Research Group in mid-2009. The group has two different research foci: SPECT-CT and mammography breast imaging.
Of David's appointment, Peter Hogg, professor of radiography and diagnostic imaging research programme leader at the UoS, said: "Not surprisingly, David's knowledge and experience will benefit significantly the attainment of our research goals and with this in mind he is working with us on a methodology for image perception and eye tracking for SPECT-CT images.
"Also, he is giving advice and support in the application of JAFROC in a pre-clinical phantom study to assess lesion detection in CT images that could be used for SPECT-CT studies."
