Society helps public to ACT: FAST

Following on from the government’s recent Stroke: Act F.A.S.T. awareness campaign, the Society and College of Radiographers has published information for patients who are to undergo imaging.
According to the Society, there has been a dearth of public information outlining what patients presenting with a suspected stroke or TIA can expect during CT and MR scans, until now.
This easy-to-access, jargon-free information guides patients, their relatives and carers through the entirescanning process.
Kate Garas, professional officer at the Society, explained: “Generally, patients who have clear explanations of what will happen in imaging cooperate, and panic much less. With the increasing awareness of how prompt action can save lives when stroke symptoms strike it is important for patients, relatives and carers to know what will happen when a scan is needed.
“Imaging of the brain is easy and straight forward, but the work of the imaging department is vital in order to diagnose stroke and TIA and many patients worry unnecessarily about the procedure.”
