World Radiography Day is celebrated on 8 November each year. The date marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.

Radiographers worldwide can use the day and the days around the date to promote radiography as a career, as a vital contribution to modern healthcare, and as an opportunity to increase public awareness of diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy.

WRD 2021 Poster Competition

We need your ideas for this year’s World Radiography Day poster competition. This is your chance to achieve lasting fame and earn admiring glances from your colleagues.

Four poster designs will be chosen to be included in the packs sent to the hundreds of departments that request them annually to help celebrate World Radiography Day.

Our posters each have the winner’s name printed on them, and it’s a great opportunity to inform patients and visitors about our profession and the role of radiographers.

The designers of the chosen posters receive a cash prize and a framed copy of their winning artwork.

So for 2021 we are asking you to design a poster on the theme ‘celebrating and promoting the profession’.

What’s the prize?

  • Cash equivalent to a year’s free membership of the SoR.
  • A framed copy of your poster.
  • Your poster printed and displayed in hundreds of departments across the UK.

How do I enter?

  • Design a poster that will do your profession proud and presents it positively to the public.
  • You can submit up to five entries on the online form.
  • You may use any medium you like, from paints and pens to Photoshop or Word. It can be a collage, a drawing or whatever format you prefer and find easiest.

In what format should I send my design?

Scan or take a photo of the design to create a PDF or a jpeg. If you create your concept in a digitally, send a PDF of the final design. Upload your designs to the online submission form by Friday 03 September.

Who will judge my design?

The Society’s Communications Forum, which is made up of members and officers.

You don’t need to be a designer or artist.

This is a competition open to everyone. Richard Evans, the Society’s chief executive officer, said: ‘Your concept doesn’t need to be perfect. It can be as simple as a pencil sketch. It’s the ideas that are important, not how they are presented. Your design will be sensitively translated to a standard that can be printed on a poster. It’s your inspiration we’re looking for. It needs to stand out from the crowd. The more striking the idea, the better!’
