World Radiography Day

World Radiography Day (WRD) is celebrated on 8 November each year. The date marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895.

Radiography professionals worldwide can use the day and the days around the date to promote radiography as a career, as a vital contribution to modern healthcare, and as an opportunity to increase public awareness of diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy.

Our WRD 2023 activities are generously sponsored by Elekta. You can learn more about them below.

Poster Competition 2023

Each year we give members the opportunity to design a poster celebrating their profession. This year our competition theme is 'Healthcare Heroes', and it’s down to you to design a concept that best represents the pivotal role radiography professionals play in healthcare.

The winning posters will be included in our WRD Packs going out to departments across the UK, with the designers also receiving:

  • a framed copy of their poster
  • a Synergy profile
  • tickets to the Radiography Awards
  • the cash equivalent of a years membership

To enter the competition, you must be an SoR member or a relative of a member.

Our poster competition is now closed; thank you to everyone who submitted a design. Rresults and final poster designs will be announced shortly.
