World Radiography Day 2020

Let the celebrations begin! Request your Poster Packs today

Published: 20 October 2020 SoR

World Radiography Day (WRD) marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation, by Wilhelm Roentgen in 1895, writes SCoR CEO Richard Evans.
Each year on November 8, radiography professionals around the world celebrate our vital contribution to modern healthcare by promoting the profession and raising public awareness of our important work.
This year we are celebrating WRD with our Poster Packs (see below), our #MyRadColleague social media campaign and the SoR Presidential Inauguration!

WRD posters
This year’s posters, sponsored by Philips, celebrate how radiographers have come together during the Covid-19 crisis and the hugely important role that you have played in the response, and continue to play.
I would like to express my gratitude to our amazing members who have designed posters that raise awareness of the role of radiography during this incredibly challenging time. Thank you to:

#myradcolleague
Over the WRD weekend, we would like to encourage you to celebrate your colleagues by taking part in our #myradcolleague campaign. Even though we are unable to hold the Radiographer of the Year Awards Ceremony this year, we still want to hear about all the exceptional radiographers, outstanding leaders, and amazing examples of teamwork out there, especially during this year of crisis.
To take part, all you have to do is share a short testimonial on our social channels between November 6-10 using: @scormembers #myradcolleague #WRD2020
You can also send your pictures, audio and video with a quote about your rad colleague to [email protected] and we will share their stories.

Presidential Inauguration
We will bring our WRD celebrations to a close on Monday 9 November with our first ever virtual Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. Join us as our Outgoing President, Gill Hodges, passes ‘the chain’ to our Incoming President, Chris Kalinka.

Celebrate your profession
2020 has been a very different year and one that has not provided many reasons to celebrate, however on World Radiography Day we want to encourage you to share the successes of our profession and help others to understand the important work that you do.
It’s a great opportunity to talk to patients and carers, students and colleagues about all that our profession offers, so please do join us for a weekend of celebrations.
