NICE accreditation
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
In July 2015, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) awarded accreditation to the processes used by the SoR to publish guidance documents.
Martin Underwood, Chair of the NICE Accreditation Advisory Committee said, “Through the Accreditation Programme the work of the Society and College has justly been recognised and they can proudly display the Accreditation Mark – the ‘seal of approval’ that assures health professionals that they are accessing some of the best information available online to make informed decisions about patient care.”
The accreditation is valid for five years for the process used to ‘produce Clinical Practice Guidelines’.
A statement from NICE said: “An important role of the Society and College of Radiographers is the production of clinical guidelines for professional practice, covering care and interventions in a radiographic setting. These guidelines are aimed at a professional audience but information for patients is also developed for some guidelines.”
The Accreditation Advisory Committee commended the Society on the “processes to ensure practical recommendations and support implementation of the guidelines.”
These include the consideration of likely barriers to implementation and the routine development of resources such as implementation guidance, summary documents, or patient information leaflets. Clear audit points are also provided in the guidelines to help put the recommendations into practice.
The professional and educational team are considering which practice guidelines will be developed using the new accredited process and will update this page when a decision is made.
