About the Silver Medal 

The silver medal was established in 1985 and is awarded by the Society of Radiographers (SoR) to recognise and acknowledge individuals for outstanding dedication and contribution to the profession of Radiography.

Eligibility for nomination

Nominees must be SoR members (or those retired from active service and membership), or non-members who are outstanding contributors to the profession. Their work may span any aspect of the imaging and therapy modalities and/or the wider spheres of commerce, industry and management; as such overseas nominees are also eligible.

Nomination process

Nominations should be submitted via our online nomination form and will be considered by the SoR Awards Committee. The Awards Committee will present recommendations to UK Council for review in September of each year, and nominations must demonstrate at least two of the following outstanding service contributions: 

  • Support of the interests of the Society of Radiography;
  • Promotion and/or facilitation of the knowledge base of the profession;
  • Professional development in the practice of radiography;
  • Fostered links with external bodies, ie, industry and commerce;
  • Leadership of the profession and multidisciplinary workforce;
  • Research and development;
  • Educational developments;
  • Advocacy and ambassadorial roles within and outside the profession at national and/or international level;
  • Exceptional service to the military and/or forensic science during time of conflict or major incident.
