Welcome

The purpose of this Special Interest Group is to provide a dedicated space for diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers working in non-traditional or extended scope roles to connect, share experiences and support one another. It aims to promote collaboration and innovation, and contribute to the development of advanced practice across diverse clinical settings. The group will also serve as a platform for advocacy, education and professional development.

Our Mission

Promoting Professionalism and Leadership

  • Provide a platform for Advanced Practitioners to share their experiences, innovations and leadership strategies in extended scope roles.
  • Facilitate the development of case studies that demonstrate professional growth beyond traditional boundaries.
  • Contribute to a growing body of evidence in emerging advanced and consultant practice roles

Developing Education and Career Pathways

  • Offer a forum for peer mentorship, shared CPD activities and education tailored to those working in non-traditional roles.
  • Supporting Innovation and Service Improvement
    Encourage innovation to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Share best practices and models of care where Advanced Practitioners have filled service gaps or enhanced patient pathways.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to redefine how radiographers can contribute across specialisms.
  • Support audit and service evaluation initiatives that demonstrate the value of extended scope roles.

Championing Advocacy and Representation

  • Represent the interests of radiographers across all professional contexts.
  • Provide a collective voice for those working in emerging roles, ensuring representation in national policy discussions and workforce planning
  • Collaborate with SCoR to identify and address professional, legal, and regulatory challenges faced by practitioners working outside traditional scopes.
  • Raise awareness of the contribution of advanced radiographic practice to the wider healthcare system.

Ensuring Standards and Patient Safety

  • Promote high standards of patient care, ethics, and safety.
  • Share and evaluate guidance on safe practice for advanced and extended roles.
  • Encourage reflective practice and peer review within the SIG to maintain and enhance clinical governance.
  • Support practitioners in navigating role boundaries responsibly, in line with HCPC and SCoR guidelines
