Welcome

The purpose of the Dental and Maxillofacial Imaging Special Interest Group (DMISIG) is to build a professional network and online platform dedicated to improving practice in dental radiography. It will provide structured support for all individuals acting as IR(ME)R operators in dental imaging across the UK. The SIG will offer a collaborative space for sharing expertise, promoting best practice, enhancing radiation safety, and supporting professional development across all dental imaging modalities, including intraoral, panoramic, cephalometric, sialography, and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).

Our Mission

The DMISIG will contribute to the mission of the Society and College of Radiographers by:

  • Placing the patient at the centre by promoting and discussing best practice to support consistent, appropriate imaging through adherence to IR(ME)R requirements, optimised protocols, and reduced unwarranted variation across the UK.
  • Promoting high standards of radiographic practice through guidance, quality assurance discussions, and promotion of evidence-based approaches to dental and maxillofacial imaging.
  • Enhancing education and CPD by providing virtual online meetings, webinars open to non-members where we discuss peer learning opportunities and establish and promote learning resources and resources tailored to dental and maxillofacial imaging.
  • Strengthening workforce development by offering SoR | CoR an informed expert forum to influence policy, consultations, and national guidance relating to dental and maxillofacial radiology, imaging modalities, and radiation protection.
  • Improving access to expertise by connecting practitioners across acute, community, and specialist imaging environments including the NHS, Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland (HSCNI), and private providers.
  • Upholding professional and regulatory standards by ensuring members maintain GDPR compliance, respect confidentiality, and promote safe, effective imaging aligned with IR(ME)R and SoR | CoR expectations.
