Extended Role Radiographers in Interventional Procedures

Are you interested in extended roles or advanced practice in interventional procedures?

Do you perform any of the following?:

  • Vascular access
  • Breast biopsy/needle localisation
  • Thyroid FNA
  • Gastrointestinal intervention
  • Cystograms
  • Drainages/aspirations
  • Joint injections

There is a new Special Interest Group forming called Extended Role Radiographers in Interventional Procedures (ERRIP SIG), to share expertise, best practice, and provide a community of radiographers who undertake, or are interested in, interventional procedures.

Emma Rose, a clinical specialist radiographer at Great Ormond Street, said,

"The 2019 Royal College of Radiologists workforce report states there are not enough radiologists to fill positions, and we know there are radiographers extending their skills and providing services.

"There is little formal education for many of these roles, and training is predominantly on-the-job. The SIG will provide the opportunity to form a community network to highlight work and provide support."

The first step is an online forum to discuss current topics and interests, with a future goal of arranging a meeting once or twice a year.
