UK Council

  • President (Presidential team)

    Chris Kalinka

Chris is currently the President of the Society. He is a DCR(R) diagnostic radiographer with more than 33 years’ service in NHS radiography in south Wales. He has served as a professional head of radiography and as a manager. Chris has a simple philosophy of “Radiographers look after people”, and that’s why he joined the NHS. Chris is keen to engage with radiographers and members across the UK to promote the work our Society and College undertake for our patients and members. He feels our professional voice needs to be considered, evidence based and authoritative to best serve our members. We need to be visible and inspire our radiographic leaders of the future to promote our profession, whilst we provide excellent care for our patients. Term of office to July 2021. The Presidential inauguration takes place in July each year and the Presidential term lasts for one year.

"I have been a member of the Society of Radiographers since qualifying in 1988 from the Middlesex & University College Hospitals School of Radiotherapy, London where I worked for a brief time before moving to Northern Ireland to work and have been an active member on the Northern Ireland Council 2000. I am passionate that radiographers should being recognised for the amazing skill sets that we have and the fabulous work we do ensuring that patients receive the most advanced care and treatment that we can provide in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring pathways. Student training is the lifeblood of our profession and our organisation and we need to invest ourselves into ensuring that the training our students receive on placement develops them and encourages them to be the best they possibly can be. I am proud to call myself a radiographer."
