The 7th National Conference for Radiology Managers

Patient, Performance, Productivity, The three Ps in tomorrow’s radiology services

The 7th National Conference for Radiology Managers, which this year, was held for the first time at the Royal College of General Practitioners in central London, offered delegates a topical programme discussing tomorrow's radiology services, with lectures and debates delivered by speakers from a variety of backgrounds.

The event concluded with a lively panel discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential future impact, positive or negative, on the delivery of healthcare services, and particularly radiology.

The conference, sponsored by Philips UKI, covered a diverse range of subjects and themes, including collaborative and multi-professional working; funding from the diagnostic capacity fund to improve the lung cancer patient pathway, and to evaluate point of care creatinine; how to use benchmarking data and more.

Report from the 5th National Conference for Radiology Managers

The theme of the 2015 conference was ‘The Quest for the Holy Grail - Achieving quality, safety and investment for your radiology service’, a concept reflected on by Neil Mesher, the Managing Director of Phillips Healthcare UK.

“We don’t need more top-down changes in the NHS,” he said. “But we are increasingly expected to respond to local needs. I want to see power given back to the healthcare providers and plans to accelerate patient-centred healthcare.”

Each year the conference has grown and this year’s was no different with a record number of delegates - including representatives from overseas - packed into a new London venue, which Richard Evans, the Society’s CEO, observed was just a hundred yards away from where he started his career at University College Hospital.

Neil and Richard welcomed delegates to a conference that featured presentations by Trevor Dale of Atrainability, Tim Cooper of the Care Quality Commission, Sarah Woolley from Mid-Staffs, Dr Stephen Davies of Medica and Professor Erika Denton, the National Clinical Director for Diagnostics.

There were also case studies from Dr Peter Rowlands, a radiologist at the Royal Liverpool; Alanna Marvin, Radiology Operations Manager, Susan Farell, Lead Superintendent, and Kirsty Belcher, IR Superintendent, all from Ashford and St Peter’s.
