Radiography Careers

Insight Day Recordings

On 2 and 3 July 2024, two insight days, run by NHS England and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, were hosted by the SoR for the Armed Forces Community.

Learning objectives and topics covered by both sessions included:

  • Learn about what Diagnostic/ Therapeutic Radiographers do day-to-day and their central role in delivering healthcare as an allied health professional
  • Hear live from current student and experienced radiographers who changed from an armed forces career to radiography
  • Observe diagnostic/ therapeutic radiography in action with real patients
  • Ask advice about education and training in radiography and meet education providers for radiography from across England

Context

This initiative comes as NHS England has stepped up its national campaign to recruit former Armed Forces members into the health service as Allied Health Professionals. The drive is part of the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan, encouraging both serving and retired armed forces personnel and their families to consider a career in the health service. It supports the Workforce Plan’s ambition to have 71,000 more allied health professionals in place by 2036/37.
