Senior MRI Radiographer

HCA Healthcare UK are looking for a Senior MRI Radiographer to provide a customer focused high quality diagnostic Radiography service to their patients and service users; undertaking and performing all MRI procedures. This post will predominately cover four sites and each site will have a different speciality. Staff are therefore expected to have scanning experience in neurology, ENT, musculoskeletal, Gynae, urology, and angiography scans (the role will not cover cardiac or paediatrics).

    IR(ME)R stands for Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations. An exciting opportunity for an IR(ME)R Inspector has arisen within our Hospitals Directorate. The role is responsible carrying out inspections under IR(ME)R 2017 and taking any necessary enforcement action. You will be required to work flexibly as part of a team and undertaking other tasks as required.

    This is a national role and will require travel throughout England.

    What we're looking for from you...

    • You will need a degree in Diagnostic or Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent; or be a clinical scientist with medical physics training.
    • You will need to have a current HCPC registration. You will need a solid knowledge and experience in radiation protection either as part of radiotherapy, nuclear medicine or diagnostic modalities.
    • You will have a sound knowledge of the IR(ME)R regulations and the application to clinical practice including risk awareness associated with the practice.

These facilities sit within the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and serve the wider university as a beacon for research excellence and collaboration.

    A major part of our growth is to recruit research-active academics or industry experts to raise the profile and quality of research and education. For this particular position, we are seeking an experienced MRI radiographer or technologist to join our academic team. The main responsibility will be to operate the new Siemens 3T Magnetom Vida for a range of ongoing research projects. A variety of dedicated coils will be available alongside MR compatible cycle ergometry, dynamometry, neuro stimulation and EEG. The successful candidate will also contribute to relevant teaching (such as anatomy) and will develop their own research interests linked to priority areas in Sports Medicine and Elite Performance, Healthy Life-course or Movement Impairment (clinical conditions) themes. We will offer training towards a teaching qualification and full support to develop research, although recent experience of teaching and involvement in research outputs would be a clear advantage for applicants. This position is part of a wider initiative aiming to recruit academics with experience of brain/fMRI, cardiac, vascular and musculoskeletal imaging as well as 31P spectroscopy.

    Applicants for the MRI radiographer or technologist position should have experience of operating magnetic resonance imaging scanners to collect high quality images and have knowledge of a wide range of scanning sequences. They must also have experience of managing patients from making appointments and collecting medical history, through to preparation for scanning, connecting physiological signal leads and debriefing patients afterwards.

    We are seeking a qualified diagnostic radiographer with MRI experience to join our diagnostic imaging team of 3 radiographers and 7 radiologists, to ensure the efficient running of the diagnostic imaging facilities in the Hospital for Small Animals, producing high quality diagnostic images of animals for clinical and research purposes. You will work both in a team and independently to organise and prioritise daily/weekly workload and will contribute to teaching veterinary students in all aspects of producing diagnostic images.
    Small animal MRI, CT and radiography will be the major imaging modalities for which the post holder has responsibility. The post-holder will also ensure ongoing operation of imaging equipment by organising and planning their maintenance programmes; and ensure effective archiving of images obtained from these sources.


    Your skills and attributes for success:

    • An interest in teaching and animals, and ideally be a diagnostic radiographer with at least two years MRI experience.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of radiation protection and MRI regulations.
    • Animal handling skills are desirable, willingness to work with animals is essential. Some flexibility in work hours will be required.
    • Appropriate training will be provided where necessary, in particular animal handling.

    You will provide a customer focused high quality diagnostic Radiography service to our patients and service users across both inpatient and outpatient settings. You should have strong technical knowledge within cross-sectional modalities. Preference will be for candidates with both CT and MRI experience, however, training can be provided within these.

    This is a full time permanent role working 37.5hrs per week.
