OPPORTUNITY FOR EXTERNALLY APPOINTED TRUSTEE with LEGAL SPECIALISM
The College of Radiographers (CoR) is a UK registered charity and subsidiary of the Society of Radiographers, the trade union and professional body for the radiographic workforce and associated professionals in the UK. The CoR is concerned with the promotion and development of medical imaging and radiotherapy, the promotion of study and research into radiography, and the promotion of public awareness of the profession.The Society and College of Radiographers are two separate companies operating together to provide service and support for those involved in radiography, including as patients, service users and the public.
The College of Radiographers Board of Trustees has a vacancy for a Trustee who is keen to share their expertise and experience with the board. Specifically, we are keen to fill this vacancy with a qualified solicitor, preferably with experience in areas such as charity law and regulation, company law and corporate governance, or employment law. While the role is not provision of legal advice to the board (the CoR will instruct its own solicitors when formal advice is required), it is hoped that the candidate can add a useful legal perspective to matters discussed by the board.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to the robust governance of a charity, as well as a genuine interest in issues of public health, medical research and health education. Although we welcome previous board experience, we are also open to applications from first time trustees. We hope our appointee will help us to gain unique and objective insights by providing an external perspective that can contribute to the College of Radiographers’ strategic work and vision, helping steer delivery of the College of Radiographers Strategy 2021-24.

The term of office is five years, with the option to stand for a second, five-year term. There are four daytime board meetings each year, as well as two training days. Meeting dates are set with inclusivity in mind, so as to not clash with major religious and cultural festivals, or with UK-wide public and school holidays. There is also an expectation that Trustees will represent the College on other committees and task groups, as well as at events representing the Board, such as Radiographer of the Year and the Presidential Inauguration. New Trustees will receive induction training after joining the Board.

This is an unpaid voluntary position, although out-of-pocket expenses are paid for agreed travel, accommodation and subsistence associated with the role, when this is required. Board Meetings are often hybrid, held face to face at the Society’s head office at 207 Providence Square, Mill Street, London SE1 2EW, with a remote access option. Some meetings are only held remotely. Lunch is provided for all London-based meetings. The building is fully accessible, and remote access to meetings via videoconference available on most occasions.

They will also need to declare interests that may impact on their role.
