    Veterinary Radiographer

    Job Purpose

    To provide efficient, effective and safe day-to-day technical management of the Diagnostic Imaging department within the Small Animal Hospital at Glasgow University Veterinary School. Operating the multimodality Imaging equipment (X-ray, CT scanner and MRI) to provide diagnostic studies. To enhance and develop the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduates and clinical scholars, and liaise with colleagues in a multidisciplinary setting.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Utilising specialist technical knowledge, provide a diagnostic imaging service for all clinical specialities within the Small Animal Hospital. To organise and prioritise the daily workload by liaising with colleagues and consequently maintain a clinical workload necessary to support teaching and research activities.
    2. To identify and implement service improvements for the veterinary imaging facility, liaising with managers/consultants/clinicians from other disciplines to meet the changing needs of the unit and exploit opportunities to enhance income generation capability of the service.
    3. To engage in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching activities and to support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
    4. To actively seek to further advance own knowledge within the profession, to keep abreast of current changes in practice and techniques, disseminating information from clinical training courses as required.
    5. To manage the implementation and validation of clinical quality assurance measures.
    6. To ensure that patient record keeping, image processing, data transfer and archiving are performed in a timely fashion and kept rigorously accurate and up to date.
    7. To ensure the unit complies with all the appropriate Ionising Radiation and Health and Safety legislation to provide a safe working environment for all staff and veterinary patients and to assist the Radiation Protection Supervisor.
    8. To ensure equipment is clean and maintained in good working order on a daily basis. To ensure regular preventative maintenance services for all radiographic equipment are carried out and keep records of such.
    9. To participate in a weekend on call rota for MRI and CT.

    Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    Knowledge/Qualifications

    Essential

    • A1 Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc in diagnostic radiography (or equivalent).
    • A2 State registration with Health Professions Council.
    • A3 Knowledge of radiation safety and Ionising Regulations (Medical Exposure) regulations.

    Desirable

    • B1 Specialised knowledge of cross-sectional imaging techniques.
    • B2 Desire to work towards further post-graduate qualification in a relevant technical area.

    Skills

    Essential

    • C1 Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and time management skills.
    • C2 Able to work to a very high standard within a multidisciplinary team.
    • C3 Highly motivated, able to demonstrate good technical knowledge and desire to continue to develop it.
    • C4 Able to work to short deadlines and have a flexible approach to workload, while providing a very high standard of service.

    Desirable

    • D1 Ability to work independently.
    • D2 Understanding and competency of IT applications/packages.
    • D3 Good standard of teaching skills.

    Experience

    Essential

    • E1 Demonstrable post-qualification experience of diagnostic radiography.
    • E2 Significant post-qualification experience of cross-sectional imaging, ideally in both CT and MRI.
    • E3 Able to demonstrate the ability to work independently, and show leadership in the field.

    Terms and Conditions

    Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.

    This post is full time (Monday to Friday, 10:00 - 18:00) and fixed term. This post is to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.

    The post is being offered on a full-time basis, although part-time will be considered. The post holder will contribute to a weekend on-call rota on a 1:4 basis.
