The Society and College of Radiographers, The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and the British Institute of Radiology (BIR) have jointly produced this Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) 2000 guidance document, with support from Public Health England (PHE) and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM). The document is aimed at employers and staff who provide clinical imaging and interventional radiology services using ionising radiations.
The document explains the principles behind the regulations and endeavours to clarify misconceptions. Scenarios have been included to provide examples and advice on practical issues relating to the regulations in order that the document is more user friendly. The advice given is wide-ranging and does not undermine an employer’s legal responsibilities for implementing compliant local procedures.
