The Society of Radiographers and the British Medical Ultrasound Society continue to collaborate on this comprehensive guidance document to support ultrasound practice. Reviewed in 2025, this is the ninth edition and has been updated to ensure the most current information and links to documents were included at the time of writing.
The 9th edition has minor updates to include new guidance documents published in the last two years and a short section with links to guidance on artificial intelligence.
The 9th edition V2 (January 2026) also includes updated RCOG guidance on the management of postmenopausal ovarian cysts.
Changes in the ninth edition are marked by either [2025] or [updated 2025].
The guidelines are to support departments provide safe, effective person-centred care. Evidence continues to evolve, so it is strongly recommended that the guidance within this document is reviewed in relation to local policy, current evidence and risk assessment.
