This report presents analysis of an online census of the ultrasound workforce in the UK, conducted by the Society of Radiographers (SoR). Data collection took place between 1 December 2024 and 17 January 2025. Similar surveys were carried out in June 2019 and 2014.
The census was aimed at ultrasound service managers across the NHS and independent healthcare sectors in England, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Its purpose was to gather data on the number of sonographers employed, vacancy levels and additional details of workforce structure.
The findings will help inform the work of professional bodies, workforce planners, commissioners and education providers.
