VDU Regulations (H&S (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations): A Guide to dealing with Health and Safety Issues arising from their use
This document is available free for members only.
Please login if you are a member.
Summary
SCoR publishes this guidance in response to the marked increase in the number of members complaining of a range of upper limb disorders (commonly known as repetitive strain injury) including pains in the neck, arms, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers; back ache (from inappropriate seating), fatigue and eye strain which has resulted from the transition to digital equipment. The importance of adequate health and safety training provision cannot be emphasised too highly especially regarding safety aspects of operating VDUs. The SoR cannot stress how important it is for the employer's interest to be proactive and educate employees in how to avoid problems rather than be reactive and deal with possible claims for damages once employees have been injured.

An evaluation of the impact of implementation of consultant practitioners in clinical imaging
Some elements of this document may not display correctly on all e-reader devices.Summary
Following the submission of the Scope of Practice report in 2008 the SCoR commissioned the University of Hertfordshire and the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) to undertake exploratory work on the adoption and diffusion of the career progression frame work and to investigate the evidence for impact of introduction of these roles.
The outcome of this work is reported here. The research captured data on issues relating to consultant appointment, impact on service operations and service improvement and hence their immediate impact on clinical imaging services at two National Health Service (NHS) trusts in England. Based on the outcomes of the study, recommendations are made for a larger study embracing clinical imaging and radiotherapy within the UK as a whole.

Education and Professional Development Strategy: New Directions
Summary
Since publication of the first version of the Education and Professional Development (EPD) Strategy in 2002, many changes have been implemented in the delivery of healthcare. This new document supersedes the version Education & Professional Development: Moving Ahead first published in 2003 and revised in 2006. Many of the principles of practice that were outlined in that document are still relevant. For patients, staff and employers to benefit from the opportunities outlined, continual development, growth and embedding of professional skills and culture are essential. Just as professional development is required to support service delivery, the profession must work closely with employers to identify adequate resources to support development opportunities and to ensure that effort and skills are properly rewarded. Delivery of the strategy outlined in this new guidance cannot be achieved without the support of the profession as a whole.

Learning and Development Framework for Hybrid Nuclear Medicine/ Computed Tomography Practice (SPECT-CT/ PET-CT)
This document is available free for members only.
Please login if you are a member.
Summary
This document sets out the learning and development requirements for this aspect of practice within the context of the career progression framework. It is envisaged that these standards will:
- Support the development of suitable education provision for this area of practice
- Support the approval of such programmes by the AAB
- Define clear standards of practice in hybrid imaging; anecdotal evidence suggests that inappropriate skills mix is being used
- Promote the development of advanced and consultant practitioner roles in nuclear medicine
