Members of the Society of Radiographers are being urged to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, taking place throughout October.

Access online resources via Breast Cancer Now or Coppafeel to find out how you can make a difference and raise awareness.

The SoR recognises Breast Cancer Awareness Month by championing the roles of its membership in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The Society supports members working across breast imaging and breast cancer care through the College of Radiographers' Education and Career Framework, which includes the crucial roles of mammography associates and assistant practitioners in mammography, and a mammography web page providing access to professional resources, guidance and further information.

Sue Johnson, professional officer for breast imaging at the SoR, said: "Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an important opportunity to raise awareness of a disease that will affect many individuals and families across the UK. Radiographers play a vital role throughout the breast cancer pathway, from screening and diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up care. The Society of Radiographers encourages members to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, share trusted information, and get involved in fundraising activities that help provide support, advice and research for those affected by breast cancer."

The SoR continues to work closely with the National Breast Imaging Academy and partner organisations across the UK to champion the radiographic workforce. Through these collaborations, the SoR helps expand access to education, training and professional development opportunities, while promoting recognition of advanced and expert practice roles.

The SoR is also a proud supporter of the biennial Symposium Mammographicum, where it hosts a dedicated exhibition stand at an event which showcases the research, innovation and service improvement work of UK radiographers alongside internationally recognised leaders in breast imaging.

The charity Breast Cancer Now has produced dedicated materials to support fundraising activities like fun runs, raffle auctions or pub quizzes.

The SoR provides a full and comprehensive suite of resources to support its members, ranging from diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers to assistant practitioners, including the SoR Breast Imaging Special Interest Group, and extensive resources on its website here.

By engaging with these diverse resources and networks, SoR members can actively enhance their own professional development while playing a vital role in the global campaign against breast cancer.
