CAHPO invites SoR members to help establish BAME forum

The Chief Allied Health Professions Officer for England, Suzanne Rastrick, is inviting SoR members to join the new CAHPO Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Strategic Advisory Forum.

In a blog about AHP workforce diversity, Suzanne says, "The work we have done to recognise and improve BAME diversity has frankly been insufficient.

"AHPs make up the third largest clinical workforce in health and care but have one of the lowest percentages of BAME workers at 12.2%, below the UK population average of 13.9% and significantly below the NHS workforce average of 19.9%. When considering BAME representation in bandings of 8a and above, this figure drops to well below 10%, so there is a significant amount of work to do."

The forum is to "provide a specific focus on race equality from a BAME perspective to influence, support and advise on the implementation and delivery of strategies, policies and practice that positively impacts on BAME AHPs and the communities they serve."

Applications are welcomed from students, support workers, and registered AHPs, working in the NHS, independent sector, and higher education.

Apply by midnight on 25 September 2020. If you have questions, email Kikelomo Odusegun
