Members sought for 4Ps Champion programme to advocate for person-centred care

The scheme comes following a webinar outlining the refreshed Partnership between Patients, Practitioners and the Public guidance document

Members of the SoR are being sought for the 4Ps Champion programme to advocate for person-centred care within clinical imaging and radiotherapy services.

The programme brings together members of the radiography workforce in raising awareness of the refreshed Partnership between Patients, Practitioners and the Public within Imaging and Radiotherapy services: Guiding Principles  (4Ps) document, which comes as a result of a year of collaboration between members of the College of Radiographers’ Patient Advisory Group, SoR members and SoR staff.

Alongside this programme comes the release of a webinar outlining the guidance, how it can be applied across clinical practice, education and research, and how it can support meaningful patient and public involvement, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.

Making a real difference

Dr Emma Hyde, head of education and research at the SoR, said: “Our 4Ps Champions will be a key part of ensuring widespread implementation of the 4Ps guiding principles in all four pillars of radiography practice. I’m looking forward to welcoming new champions to our Community of Practice meetings, and working in partnership to make a real difference to people needing imaging examinations, or radiotherapy treatment.”

Champions will have several key roles and responsibilities, including:

  • Raising awareness of the 4Ps guidance
  • Promoting use of the 4Ps by demonstrating best practice in clinical, leadership and management, education and research settings
  • Sharing knowledge and experiences through articles, blog posts, podcasts, and conference presentations
  • Supporting workforce development by highlighting opportunities to learn more about the guiding principles of the 4Ps through the CoR’s member resources

Elevating person-centred care

Being a 4Ps Champion provides opportunities to collaborate with like-minded radiography professionals and a platform to influence radiography practices and policies.

Examples of ways champions can influence practice include implementing person-centred care practices - such as considering dignity and modesty through an equity, diversity and inclusion lens - working with charities and peer-support groups to shape service development - including people with lived experience in radiography education -and co-designing radiographer-led research with patients and the public.

Quarterly 4Ps Champions Community of Practice meetings will also be held online, providing a central platform to elevate person-centred care in radiography.

Members can also now access the ‘All You Need to Know About the Refreshed 4Ps Guidance’ webinar, hosted by Dr. Hyde, which highlights the key updates since its original publication in 2018 and the societal, regulatory and policy changes that have shaped the refresh.
