Winners of the first-ever MRI Safety Week poster competition have been announced.
The winning poster will be digitally distributed to hundreds of imaging and radiotherapy departments across the country later this month.
MRI Safety Week, which takes place from 21-25 July, is an annual event focusing on the importance of safety in magnetic resonance imaging practice and which seeks to raise awareness of safe working and reinforce best practices.

The inaugural victor of the competition is Lisa Cox, a senior research and MRI radiographer at the Newcastle Upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust.
Having been an MRI radiographer for more than 20 years now, Lisa has a broad perspective on safety in MRI practice and how it has changed over the years. Lisa has worked across the NHS and private sector since her training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and has lived in the North East region for the past 23 years.
Lisa emphasised that MRI safety is one of the most important focuses when working in an MRI department.
She said: “Referrers and patients are often unaware of all of the MRI safety considerations that we need to check, hopefully this poster can be used as a useful checklist!”
“I'm passionate about MRI safety and wanted my design to provide as much information for referrers as possible, choosing this category also meant I could incorporate considerations such as patient preparation,” Lisa explained. “The two teams I work in are very supportive and knowledgeable, and my colleagues in the research department helped me finalise the content of my design for submission.”
Despite an original interest in architecture, Lisa ultimately decided to pursue a career in radiography and has been qualified for 25 years. She has worked across the NHS and private sector since her training at Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge, and has lived in the North East region for the past 23 years.
The runners-up for the poster competition were Katie Bagshawe, SMRI radiographer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a poster entitled 'Danger Beware! Remember to Declare...', Alice Milligan, deputy clinical lead radiographer MRI at Somerset Foundation Trust with a poster entitled 'Why do I need hearing protection?', and Tiffany Robcraft, MRI radiographer at University Hospitals Sussex with a poster entitled 'Padding Safety'.
