Radiographers are being encouraged to submit nominations for two new UK Council positions that have opened up, representing Wales and the northern region.
Nominations for the roles are now open and will close at midday on 5 November.
Those elected to the Council will be responsible for a range of legal duties, including promoting Council policies, carrying out campaign work and speaking at international events. Anyone interested in nominating an SoR member can find more details here.
The Wales seat vacancy comes after the resignation of the previous Wales member. The northern seat represents the only seat this region holds, and is a longer-standing vacancy.
The UK Council acts as the Executive Committee for all SoR activities. All members of the Society are eligible for nomination to the Council.
The term of office is three years – beginning on the date of appointment and ending 30 June 2027 – and members are permitted to stand for re-election when their term is up. However, the Society emphasises that all members should have the opportunity to partake in the Council.
If you would like to nominate yourself, you must have the support of four other SoR members, who will declare their support by signing your application form.
The nomination form must be accompanied by a statement of interest explaining the personal and professional interests of yourself or the person you are nominating. The statement can be up to 500 words long, and will be used as an election address if the nomination is successful.
Tom Welton, President of the Society of Radiographers, says that opportunities like the UK Council allow members to become more engaged with their profession.
"It's so important to be engaged with your profession and be able to have a voice," he says. "Being a board member on UK Council offers a good opportunity to represent your region and speak up about how the SoR conducts itself."
"We would love for someone who is driven and engaged to enter into the group and bring their voice to high-level strategic changes."
