A new initiative funded by NHS England is calling on radiographers across the UK to sign up and become champions for enhanced practice.
Championing Enhanced Practice in Radiography (CHEERS) is facilitated by the SoR and offers free training to develop enhanced-level practice champions.
Champions will take on the responsibility of advocating for enhanced-level practice and act as a resource for knowledge within their specialisms.
CHEERS is calling for representation in the following modalities:
Diagnostic Radiographers
Therapeutic Radiographers
Dosimetrists
Nuclear Medicine Technologists
Sonographers
Mammographers
To become a champion, candidates will need to be a state-registered radiographer with the HCPC, have a minimum of three years of clinical experience and be working at a Band 6 or above. Candidates must also be passionate about their specialism and possess leadership and mentorship skills. There are an unlimited amount of spaces available.
What does the role of enhanced-level practice champion entail?
Champions must be able to promote enhanced practice within radiography and communicate its importance to others, working closely with managers and practitioners to achieve this. In turn, champions will have the opportunity to boost their careers and take a role in improving communication in the healthcare sector.
Successful applicants will take part in free training through a mandatory two-day workshop, which will take place on 8 January and 29 January 2025. The workshop will outline details on enhanced practice and career pathways, national guidelines – such as the Education and Career Framework (ECF) and Enhanced Practice Schemas – and career planning skills.
Those interested in becoming an Enhanced Practice Champion should fill out an application form (download link) and write an expression of interest for the role. Service managers must also sign the form permitting interested candidates to take part.
Applications are open until 15 November 2024, please email your completed form to [email protected].
