The Society of Radiographers is proud to mark this year’s National Careers Week and British Science Week, to help raise the profile of radiography.
As part of these two national campaigns, the Society will be publishing a series of articles aimed at students, teachers and the general public, to showcase the many radiography careers that are on offer.
National Careers Week, which runs from 2-7 March, is an annual celebration of careers guidance that helps students, educators and parents navigate future employment pathways.
British Science Week, which runs from 6-15 March, is a 10-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths across the UK, and is organised by the British Science Association.
Michelle Tyler, professional officer for careers promotion and outreach at the SoR, said: “Radiographers sit at the centre of patient pathways, enabling flow through emergency departments, theatres, cancer services and community care. You support clinical decision-making at the highest level and help shape how services work for patients.
“We know that radiography blends advanced science with humanity, and that is something to value deeply. We also want to recognise that many radiographers are already championing the profession beyond clinical practice: visiting schools, supporting careers events, mentoring learners and sharing your experiences in person or via social media. You are inspiring the next generation every day.”
This year’s National Careers Week is sponsored by the NHS, and as part of the event, there will be career spotlights and live Q&A sessions with NHS staff, interactive quizzes and competitions.
The theme for this year’s British Science Week is ‘Curiosity: what’s your question?’.
Alongside sharing the awareness articles, the SoR is encouraging members to get in touch with their experiences, pictures and initiatives for careers promotion and outreach.
