College of Radiographers student grants and awards open for applications to support research

Radiography pre-registration learners can apply now for research grants and a chance to be recognised at UKIO or the Radiography Awards

Pre-registration radiography students and apprentices, and their teaching teams, can apply now for two grants and awards to support research aspirations.

The UKIO Pre-registration Student Attendance Award provides winning applicants with funding to attend the SoR’s multidisciplinary scientific congress, UKIO.

A second grant, the Pre-registration Student Dissertation Award, celebrates research undertaken by radiography students and apprentices, as part of their programme of study, at the SoR’s annual Radiography Awards.

Raising the profile of research activity

Both grants and awards, part of the College of Radiographers Industry Partnership Scheme, are unique opportunities to connect with other radiographers and researchers and build research knowledge and skills.

Dr Emma Hyde, head of education and research at the SoR, said: “Research is one of the four pillars of professional practice as a radiographer, as set out in our Education and Career Framework. These research grants and awards, specifically open to pre-registration students and apprentice radiographers, help to raise the profile of research activity within the profession, and embed research as the norm right from the start of a radiographer’s career.”

The UKIO Pre-Registration Student Attendance Award will give two students or apprentices, one diagnostic, one therapeutic, the chance to attend UKIO 2026, which will be held at the ACC in Liverpool from 8-10 June 2026.

Funding of up to £600 per student or apprentice will cover travel, accommodation, registration, and subsistence costs.

Applications close at 5pm on March 31 2026. Find more information on the College of Radiographers (CoR) website here.

Research and inspiration

The Pre-registration Student Dissertation Award celebrates research. Teaching teams delivering a CoR-approved radiography programme who have been inspired by a student or apprentice’s research project can nominate them for this award, which highlights not only the student or apprentice’s efforts but also shines a spotlight on the nominating radiography programme team.

Two winning recipients, one diagnostic, one therapeutic, will receive a £300 prize at the Annual Radiography Awards, and both student or apprentice and nominator will be invited to attend the ceremony, with radiography professionals and industry leaders from across the UK.

Applications close at 5pm on June 3 2026. Find more information on the CoR website here.
