Important changes are set to take place on the College of Radiographers Board of Trustees, with chair Marcus Jackson and vice-chair Sue Webb retiring.
Dr Jackson, who has been a trustee since 2020 and has served as chair since 2022, will be replaced by former SoR president Pam Black.
Ms Webb, a CT senior radiographer, will be stepping down after three years as vice-chair, to be replaced by another former SoR president, Gareth Thomas.
The College Board of Trustees (CBoT) oversees the work of the College of Radiographers, the charity subsidiary of the Society of Radiographers, and ensures the college achieves its aims of improving imaging and radiotherapy practice.
Dr Jackson is an associate professor and professional lead for diagnostic radiography at St George’s University of London. He was appointed as a trustee for the college in 2020, having applied for the role ‘to give back and to be part of the wonderful institution’ of the CoR, he said at the time.
His replacement, Diagnostic Radiographer Pam Black, will take on the role of chair from mid-December. Ms Black was SoR president from 2013-14, and is a former chair of the Radiology and Oncology Congress board.
Ms Webb is a CT senior radiographer at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. A former SoR president, she also previously held the role of chair of the Society of Radiographers’ UK Council and was a member of the Society’s Eastern Region committee.
Gareth Thomas will take on the vice-chair role from mid-December. Mr Thomas qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 2000 and currently holds an appointed trustee role on the CBoT. He is a former president of the SoR and was previously its International Representative. In 2019, Mr Thomas became a full-time academic/clinical educator at Cardiff University.
CBoT chairs are tasked with providing leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, allowing the board to fulfil its responsibilities for the college. Additionally, it must ensure the college sticks to its charitable objectives for the benefit of the public, as well as being an ambassador and face of the organisation.
The CBoT oversees a number of committees, such as the Patient Advisory Group and the Approval and Accreditations Board.
It is made up of seven externally-appointed trustees - one of whom serves as chair - and six trustees nominated by the SoR board and the president.
Chairs and vice-chairs serve three-year terms, which are renewable once. Trustees serve on the board for five-year terms, also renewable once.
Board trustees offer strategic leadership and ensure the college meets both its charitable and professional commitments. Before trustees are appointed, the CoR conducts background checks to confirm their eligibility.
The CBoT meets five times per year in February, March, June, October and December.
