The winners of the 2025 Insight Student Writing Competition have been announced.

Each year Insight, the official CPD publication of the SoR, hosts an academic writing competition open to students and recently-qualified radiographers.

This year's winner is Ricki Gault, for her article on AI-assisted reporting.

Insight gives radiographers the chance to write about professional and educational subjects that have had an impact on clinical roles.

This latest edition consists of submissions from winners of the SoR Insight Student Writing Competition, and a celebration of their work by Jo McNamara, Editorial Board member and co-host of the award-winning podcast Rad Chat.

Winners were decided by an expert panel of Insight journal reviewers, with the top-five submissions being published in the Winter '25 edition.

'Skilled, motivated, and thoughtful'

Jo said: “These entries show how skilled, motivated and thoughtful our students are – their work makes a real difference. Their work demonstrates not only academic strength but a commitment to improving care for patients around the world.

“To every student reading: keep researching, keep questioning, and keep sharing your ideas.”

The winter edition features an exploration of the diagnostic accuracy of AI-assisted reporting compared with radiologists for prostate cancer on MRI, a critical evaluation of the role of various imaging modalities used during cerebral aneurysm intervention, and a systematic review of global implementation, diagnostic impact and practitioner wellbeing across teleradiology settings.

Also included is a paper on the importance of global collaboration and specialist care in paediatric cancer, to help improve outcomes for children worldwide.
