ECR 2019 paints the bigger picture

11 January, 2019
ECR - The Bigger Picture

The annual meeting of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) will focus on artificial intelligence as well as the latest trends in radiology, offering an even bigger interventional radiology area than last year, providing education, science and training at the highest level, as well as premiering an opening ceremony like never seen before.

The European Congress of Radiology is taking place from 27 February - 3 March in Vienna, Austria.

This year’s motto ‘the bigger picture’ does not only relate to the congress poster celebrating the 25th ECR in Vienna and consisting of elements from the past 24 ECRs, but also to the ESR’s vision that its annual meeting is more than just a radiology congress. It is the event where radiographers, radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, medical physicists and professionals from related professions come together under one roof to discuss, explore, and present every aspect medical imaging has to offer.

The Cube, the ECR's educational space dedicated to interventional radiology, returns bigger and better. Participants can expect a large array of simulators, devices, expert-led sessions and more, making the Cube 2.0 the best place to experience an immersive, hands-on introduction to IR.

‘Women in Focus’ will see inspiring speakers share their views on a range of topics related to women working in healthcare. The programme will tackle issues such as leadership, mentoring and working in challenging environments. It will explore and celebrate the crucial role that women play in healthcare, whilst offering advice and insights to those wishing to advance their careers.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary in style, the former traditional opening ceremony will be completely ‘refurbished’ to include the five senses. Special scents will be created to set a unique atmosphere; the eyes will be entertained with a spectacular stage and light design by the visual artist Amra Bergman; and there will be music throughout, reflecting the dignitaries’ favourite tunes.

As every year the ESR support programmes Invest in the Youth and Shape Your Skills will be highly popular and 1200 young professionals and radiographers will be given free congress registration and an accommodation voucher.

EuroSafe Imaging, the ESR’s flagship initiative on radiation protection, will also be heavily featured throughout the congress programme, hosting seven dedicated sessions as well as numerous Coffee&Talk and joint sessions.

To make it more widely accessible, the ECR will once again broadcast nearly every lecture via live web streams on ECR Online, a service delegates have used increasingly since its introduction four years ago.
