SoR members reconvened for day two of the Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) on Wednesday 30 April, where attendees voted on the remaining motions and reflected on the outcomes of the event.

ADC 2025 took place at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith, London. The annual event sees each Regional Committee and National Council send a delegation - who are elected within the constituency - to attend. SoR student members are also permitted to join the delegation.

At ADC, attendees can submit topics for consideration by the delegates. Equalise - the SoR’s equality network - and the SoR UK Council can also submit motions. Motions that are carried are actioned upon over the next year by the UK Council.

On Monday 28 April, one day before ADC began, the SoR held its popular Annual Student Conference at the same venue. Here, students were made aware of the work the SoR undertakes to provide them with ongoing support.

Day two highlights

On day one of ADC, 70 motions were raised. Day two saw the final 21 motions offered for consideration.

Motions raised on day two of the conference included a call to promote risk assessment and recruit more health and safety reps which was carried by delegates, as well as an appeal for menstrual leave entitlement for radiography professionals, which was not carried. There was also a call for the UK Council to review the SoR’s social media policy, in the wake of services combatting misinformation being retracted across several major social media platforms. This motion was carried.

Attendees also heard a motion that encouraged the UK Council to support a collaboration between the College of Radiographers and the College of Radiographers Industry Partnership Scheme (CoRIPS). The collaboration focuses on promoting the development of AI technologies and how they can improve person-centred care, rather than replace it. The motion was ultimately carried.

Earlier this week, ahead of the motion being presented, the SoR warned about advances in AI technology in regards to image reporting.

White Ribbon campaign

Following the conclusion of motions on day two, Tahnee McCorry, CEO of White Ribbon NI, led a guest talk on her work tackling violence against women and girls.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global movement, founded in 1991, that strives to raise awareness of the prevalence of male violence against women.

According to the Office for National Statistics, one in four women in England and Wales will experience abuse in their lifetime

Ms McCorry said: “When I learned home was not a safe place for so many people, I was shocked.”

"The first thing I noticed when I came here [to ADC] is how many women there are.

“We need to respect there are women in this room who have been affected by violence against women and girls, who have been affected by abuse.

“Statistically there will be women at your table who have been affected by violence against women, but also the men in the room."

In her talk, Ms McCorry outlined her work across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of the campaign, engage men and boys, and promote positive role models in leadership positions who can help protect women and girls.

Ms McCorry then took questions from delegates at the end of her talk.

Committee nominations

The next objective of the day was to hear the committee nominations. Each nominee had an opportunity to talk about why they should have a place on their respective committee.

Doreen Mutambuze was elected to the role of student observer to the UK Council. Rebecca Dan-Zaria and Daniel Smith were appointed to the Trade Union Education Committee. Ifeanyi Obike and Catherine Mackay were elected as UK Council observers.

In his closing speech, Tom Welton, President of the SoR, said the purpose of ADC is to collaborate to advance the core goals of the SoR.

“It’s about making change, it’s about coming together,” Tom said about the conference. “Thank you all for coming. It’s been a great ADC.”
