Dr Amy Hancock has been appointed President of the UK Imaging and Oncology (UKIO) congress, a prestigious annual three-day event co-organised by the Society and College of Radiographers.
An HCPC-registered Therapeutic Radiographer, Dr Hancock brings more than 20 years of experience as a clinician, researcher and leader. She is the director of medical imaging at the University of Exeter and serves as deputy chair of the SoR Research Advisory Group, chair of the College of Radiographers Industry Partnership Scheme (CoRIPS) Funding Panel and is an associate editor of Radiography journal.
Charlotte Beardmore, CEO of the SoR, said: “Amy has a real passion for supporting and developing others, and her journey from presenting her MSc work at UK Radiation Oncology Conference [which later became UKIO] in 2013 to returning as UKIO President is a fantastic example of the opportunities our profession can create.”
She continued: “I know Amy will inspire the next generation of radiographers and researchers from across imaging and oncology, while helping UKIO continue to grow as a welcoming and influential event for the whole community.”
Dr Hancock said: “I still remember the excitement and pride I felt standing beside my poster [at my first conference] and being part of the wider professional community. Nearly 14 years later, I am absolutely delighted to be stepping into the role of President of UKIO for the 2028 and 2029 congresses.
“Knowing how important that first conference experience was for me and my career, I feel incredibly passionate about ensuring UKIO continues to be a place where people at every stage of their career feel welcome, inspired and able to contribute.”
Dr Hancock’s work focuses on advancing the profession through collaboration, research and inclusivity, particularly in workforce development and person-centred care. She has contributed to national guidance and professional strategy across professional bodies, healthcare organisations, universities and patient communities.
