The Society of Radiographers is calling for members to join an upcoming webinar where the results of its Racism in the Workplace survey will be discussed.

Launched earlier this year, the Racism in the Workplace survey aimed to collate personal information about members’ experiences of racism. It was made up of 18 questions, two of which were ‘Have you experienced racism at work in the last 18 months?’ and ‘How does your employer support you when you experience or witness racism at work?’

In total, 382 completed responses were received from members.

“The survey does not tell us that racism in healthcare is new,” the SoR said. “We know that racism has existed across healthcare settings for many years.

“What the survey does show is that progress has not been made quickly or consistently enough, and that racism continues to affect members’ confidence, wellbeing, safety, professional experience and sense of belonging at work.”

The SoR has reviewed the survey responses and will hold an online panel Q&A to discuss its findings on Wednesday 22 July at 6pm-7.30pm.

What will the online Q&A consist of?

The online event will consist of a panel discussion featuring Rubi Gubara-Sannie, EDI and organisational development consultant at Turning Tables Consulting, Leandre Archer, head of industrial relations at the Society of Radiographers and Michelle Codrington-Rogers, policy lead - anti-racism at the Trades Union Congress.

Panellists will reflect on and discuss what members shared in their survey responses and consider what action is needed to encourage speaking up, reporting and involvement in active allyship.

The Q&A will also see panellists share details on interventions the SoR is working on to support members, reps and workplaces in recognising and challenging racism.
