The spring 2026 SoR UK Council elections are now open for nominations, with seats open in the Midlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the South West.

All full members of the SoR are eligible to stand for election, and can be nominated by four members from their region to stand for election.

Deadline for receipt of the completed nominations form is midday GMT is on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Strong, democratic, and well-governed

SoR UK Council plays a central role in shaping the strategic direction of the professional body and trade union. Each UK region has one or more seats on the council, and members are invited to put themselves forward to represent their region, for a term of three years, after which they must choose to stand again for a further term.

Elections this spring are open for the Midlands and Northern Ireland, where the current post-holders are retiring, as well as Scotland and the South West, where the current post-holder plans to stand again, but all eligible members may apply.

Richard Evans, CEO of the SoR, said: “The SoR exists for members and is run by members, ensuring we stay strong, democratic and well governed for the long-term success of our union and professional body. We hope you will consider applying for these roles.”

Those elected to UK Council will have a range of duties, including:

  • representing and promoting agreed policies
  • representing the trade union and professional interests of all Society members
  • developing and promoting the advancement of the radiography profession and the wider radiographic workforce
  • undertaking campaign work as required
  • encouraging recruitment of members in the countries and region(s)
  • attending and speaking at national and international conferences, events and meetings

Applying to Council

Council members receive induction, training and mentoring, and are expected to attend meetings (most of which welcome virtual attendance) and actively participate in discussions.

To apply, members will need the details of four others from their region who support their nomination and an election address outlining their experience.

Nominations are welcomed from across the radiotherapy and imaging professions, and encouraged from those with a broad range of career backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and disabilities.

The SoR’s independent scrutineer will be Civica Election Services.

Eligible members will be invited by email to submit their nominations.
