Taking place in Liverpool in 2026, the event is world-renowned in radiation protection

The Society of Radiographers is encouraging members to take part in the 7th European International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA) Congress.

Taking place every four years, the event brings together IRPA members to share their experiences and connect with other professionals, and the theme of this year’s congress is ‘encouraging collaboration in radiation protection’.

Next year’s European IRPA Congress will take place at the ACC Liverpool from 1-5 June, following on from the last event in 2022, which took place in Budapest.

Lynda Johnson, professional officer for clinical imaging and radiation protection at the SoR, has encouraged members to attend.

“[The] SoR is delighted to be supporting this important and world-renowned radiation protection event which is coming to the ACC Liverpool on 1-5 June 2026,” she said.

“We encourage all SoR members and radiation protection leaders in healthcare to attend and to participate.”

Abstract submissions now open

For those who wish to submit an abstract for the congress, the deadline for oral presentations is 30 September 2025 and the deadline for posters is 21 November 2025.

“Please consider submitting abstracts for the opportunity to share your research and technological or practice innovations with colleagues from around the world,” Ms Johnson continued. “We look forward to seeing you there!”

Awards will be presented for best oral presentation and best poster competition.

The congress will be hosted by the Society for Radiological Protection.

Jim Thurston, chair of the 7th European IRPA Congress Organising Committee and former SRP president, said Liverpool emerged as the clear choice to host next year’s conference.

“After much research of UK locations we all agreed that Liverpool was the perfect location for this major event,” he explained.

“With a state-of-the-art theatre and conference centre overlooking the River Mersey, local restaurants within walking distance and the ease of getting to the city, it felt like the perfect place for the European Congress.

“I look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to Liverpool in 2026.”
