The Society of Radiographers and Trades Union Congress will be attending a Together Alliance event in London to tackle the rise in racism, misogyny and homophobia across the country.

Participating alongside will be other Allied Health Professions unions and professional associations, with the union bloc led by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

SoR members are encouraged to attend the event in London on March 28, with more details on location and travel available on the event website.

A rise in discrimination

Organised by the Together Alliance, an organisation made up of hundreds of civil society organisations representing over 7 million people, the event will consist of a main march and a short accessible march, with an online event for those who cannot attend in person.

The last few years have seen a worrying rise in aggressive behaviours towards many of the most vulnerable in society. In particular, there has been a significant rise in discrimination and hostility, including racism, misogyny, and homophobia.

This hostile environment impacts people across their communities and in their workplaces, and makes society feel less safe for everyone.

A positive, hopeful alternative

Dean Rogers, executive director of industrial strategy at the SoR, said: “The Together alliance are organising a march and festival in London on the 28th March, which aims to show a positive, hopeful alternative – bringing people together from all communities.”

Members can join the main march, which will begin gathering from 12pm on Park Lane, making its way onto Piccadilly towards Green Park Tube Station before turning onto Regent Street and then onto Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall.

Also available is the shorter accessible route at Trafalgar Square, which will begin gathering from 1pm at the top of Whitehall.

Details of how to join the event and fellow AHPs on the march, and at the event’s performances, are included on the Together Alliance website.
