The Department of Health has announced that as well as increasing the number of student placements at medical schools in England by 1500, funding will be available for 10,000 additional training places for allied health professionals, nurses and midwives.
However, there is no breakdown as to how many will be available between individual professions.
The decision to increase training opportunities follows a consultation earlier this year that looked at expanding undergraduate medical education.
The extra allocation for future doctors will focus on students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
