Competence framework for AHPs working with people affected by cancer published

A competence framework for allied health professionals working with people affected by cancer has been published and is available to download.

Endorsed by SCoR Council, the framework has been compiled by Macmillan Cancer Support. The first of its kind in the UK, the document is designed to help managers, teams and individuals.

It aims to provide competences applicable to all stages of the cancer care pathway, to enable care and information to be shared across different health settings; help standardise care; motivate staff by setting challenging objectives and providing positive feedback; and support continuing personal and professional development as part of the requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council registration requirements

SoR UK Council member John Burton said, "We were keen to emphasise to Macmillan that the therapeutic radiographers role is solely in cancer and therefore the framework and associated competency level descriptors do not entirely fit with their professionally defined competences.

"However, we welcome the publication of this framework because many AHPs, in addition to diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers, are involved in the care of patients with cancer."
