Richard Evans, Chief Executive Officer of the Society & College of Radiographers (SCoR) welcomed more than 300 delegates and 70 exhibitors to the London-based event: “I am always impressed that so many of you prioritise this meeting and find the time to attend; to learn from and share experiences with colleagues from across the country.
“I hope that everyone will enjoy today away from the pressures of day-to-day working, learning something new and gaining knowledge while you are here.”
Commenting on the news that Prime Minister Theresa May had promised more money for NHS staff in a bid to make them ‘happier’ at work, Richard said: “A ‘joyous staff’ improves the quality of healthcare but is cash the answer or is it more complicated than that?”
The speakers today, he added, will focus on leadership and how to bring your people along with you. “Hopefully, it’s not just all about the money but more about engaging staff and providing better care for patients.”
Neil Mesher, CEO at Philips UKI, which jointly sponsors the conference, also welcomed delegates: “There is a common thread to the agenda today,” he said, “and the future is going to be about you and your people, and what you do every day. A large part of this conference is about sharing your experiences and taking away ideas to help form a solid strategy for the radiology workforce.
“Growth in demand is a reality in radiology and money is needed to enter this system. Undoubtedly, we are going to require more investment but that’s never the complete answer to everything.”
