MRI staff needed for short survey about patients with pacemakers and ICDs

Does your site scan patients with MR conditional pacemakers/ICDs (implantable cardioverter defibrillators)?

A commentary on how to set-up such a service needs input from MRI radiographers and managers.

Led by the Society, as well as BAMRR and IPEM, the short survey will help create practical advice for services which do not currently scan pacemaker/ICD patients.

Estimates suggest there are 50,000 scans needed annually for patients with cardiac devices but latest data suggest that only around 1000 scans are undertaken.

“Any information that can be shared by MRI staff who have first-hand experience of setting up or developing such a service and of the various challenges this involves will be greatly appreciated,” commented Alex Lipton, the SoR’s professional officer for MRI.

Deadline for survey responses is 18 January.
