New diagnostic career framework launched in NW London

The NHS in North West London is launching a new competency based career framework which promotes learning opportunities and a clear career pathway for diagnostic radiographers.

The framework is based on the SCoR’s Education and Career Framework and has been developed in collaboration with all the NHS trusts in NW London and Health Education England (HEE).

NW London is the first NHS region to introduce a dedicated career framework to support radiographers in their career development.

The framework has been developed following consultation with patients, managers, staff and the SCoR, with feedback indicating that a lack of career development and progression opportunities was a major barrier in staff recruitment and retention.

This new framework outlines clear career options and the skills and behaviours required to progress along preferred career paths for local radiographers.

Radiographers will now have opportunity to design their own training, take control of how their career develops, and there will be greater consistency in skills and roles across trusts in NW London.

The NHS and HEE in NW London are also working together to invest in further training and development opportunities for radiographers and sonographers.

The Framework will be/was launched at the SCoR London Region study day on 5th November
