New document addresses equipment handover procedures

Are you involved with the handover of ionising radiation equipment for routine service, maintenance or breakdown?

Do you understand your duties under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R17) to ensure the safety of all who may be affected by the work?

Are you aware of your employer’s procedures and do you know what authority you have in the handover process, e.g. who can sign the equipment back into use?

A new handover document, Radiation Controlled Area and Equipment Handover Form and Accompanying Guidance Notes, has been developed to assist in this process and provide national consistency to improve co-operation between employers.

The document is a collaboration between The Society for Radiological Protection (SRP) Radiation Protection Medical Sector Committee, the Association of Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy and Care (AXREM) and others, including the SCoR and other partner societies.

It is accompanied by guidance notes that may assist you to clarify your local procedures and assist in training new staff in this important aspect of radiation protection procedures.
